Parent
Commissioning

What is Parent Commissioning?
Parent commissioning is a time for parents and the church to commemorate the birth or adoption of a child, in the setting of a worship service. This is an opportunity for parents to come before their church family and make a commitment to God by agreeing to raise their children by Christian principles, so that one day, prayerfully, their children will be followers of Jesus Christ.

How do I start the process of taking part in a Parent Commissioning?
Participants in Parent Commissioning must be church members, having completed the membership process through the City Church Connect and Membership Classes and signing a membership agreement. Because we are asking our church family to make a commitment to embrace and support your family, that is best accomplished if you are fully involved in the ministries and fellowship of the church.

If you have been attending regularly, but have not yet made the decision to become a member of our church family, we invite you to make that your next step in the journey of leading your family. You can register for an upcoming Connect Class, where you will begin the membership process.

Will I receive any support or guidance through the process of Parent Commissioning?
Yes! In order to take part in a Parent Commissioning Sunday service, parents must attend the "First Steps in Family Discipleship" class prior to the desired parent commissioning date. This 2 hour class includes childcare and a meal for participating parents and their children. The Faith @ Home class is designed to support and provide resources for parents as they lead their families in following God’s design for their lives.

Baptism

We are so excited that your child is wanting to take the next step in their faith by asking questions and pursuing baptism. Baptism is a command, an act of obedience, and a picture of the Gospel. It is a public display of an inward decision to follow Jesus. It is our conviction that baptism should occur only as a symbol, after someone has surrendered their life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

To further equip you as a parent, as you walk alongside your child in their discipleship journey, we encourage you to sign up for our Next Steps in Family Discipleship Class. We also highly recommend your child attend our KiDS Salvation and Baptism Class to gain a further understanding of baptism.

If your child is ready to take this next step, we would love to talk with them. Click the link below to fill out our KiDS Baptism Form and a member of our KiDS team will follow up with you. For more information about baptism visit our Baptism page.
